  • REEF + SPLC Present: Reducing Refrigerant Emissions Through the Power of Procurement

    2 Part Webinar Series

Refrigerants remain one of the most overlooked yet impactful levers for climate action. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)—the most common refrigerants used in HVAC, refrigeration, and heat pump systems—are also among the fastest-growing and most potent greenhouse gases. Left unmanaged, refrigerant leakage can undermine even the most ambitious climate goals. That’s why the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) and the Refrigerant Emissions Elimination Forum (REEF) have partnered to launch the Sustainable Refrigerant Procurement Guidelines—a first-of-its-kind resource that empowers procurement teams, facility managers, and sustainability professionals to integrate climate-friendly refrigerant strategies into purchasing decisions.

These practical tools provide clear specifications, policy language, and templates designed to help organizations avoid high-GWP refrigerants, reduce lifecycle emissions, and lead the market toward sustainable innovation through the power of procurement.

    Part 1: Launching the Guidelines

    Thursday, October 30, 2-3 ET

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are some of the most widely used refrigerants in HVAC, refrigeration, and heat pump equipment—but they’re also some of the fastest-growing and most damaging greenhouse gases. Left unmanaged, refrigerant leakage has the potential to undermine even the most ambitious climate goals. That’s why the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) and the Refrigerant Emissions Elimination Forum (REEF) are teaming up to launch the Sustainable Refrigerant Procurement Guidelines. These groundbreaking tools provide procurement teams, facilities managers, and sustainability leaders with clear specifications, policy language, and templates to start tackling refrigerants.

During this interactive launch session, you’ll:

✅ Understand why refrigerants are a hidden climate lever with outsized impact.

✅ Learn how procurement decisions directly influence emissions reduction and compliance.

✅ Walk through the Guidelines and Specifications Template with SPLC’s technical experts.

✅ Discover practical strategies and “quick wins” that your organization can act on immediately.

✅ Connect with peers and experts in a growing collaborative community.

This session is designed for audiences ranging from “refrigerant beginners” to those already embedding sustainability into procurement strategies. By joining, you’ll gain the tools, confidence, and support to reduce refrigerant emissions while positioning your organization as a climate leader. Reserve your spot today and be among the first to apply these new resources!

    Speakers:

Liz Swanson, Senior Program Manager at SPLC

Kris Spriano, Programs Executive at SPLC

Tristam Coffin, Chairman of the Board at REEF

Kristen Taddonio, Board Director at REEF

Part 2: Case Study in Action

    Tuesday, November 18, 2-3 ET

How do the new Sustainable Refrigerant Procurement Guidelines perform in the real world? Join SPLC and REEF for the second installment of our webinar series, where we spotlight an early adopter organization that has already begun implementing the Guidelines in procurement processes. This peer-driven session goes beyond theory and brings you face-to-face with the realities of applying refrigerant-conscious procurement. You’ll learn how a leading organization navigated challenges, what performance metrics they tracked, and what outcomes they achieved—from emissions reductions to cost efficiencies and compliance benefits.

    In this session, you’ll:

✅ Hear a firsthand case study of Guideline implementation in action.

✅ Gain insights into performance metrics and tools for GHG-compliant measurement.

✅ Explore common challenges in HVAC refrigerant procurement and how to overcome them.

✅ Understand the business case for refrigerant action, from compliance risk reduction to operational savings.

✅ Engage directly with peers, experts, and practitioners shaping the next wave of sustainable procurement.

Whether you’re just beginning to consider refrigerants in your climate strategy or already moving toward implementation, this webinar will give you real-world insights and practical tools to accelerate your progress. Don’t miss this chance to learn from early adopters and bring actionable lessons back to your team!

    Speakers:

Liz Swanson, Senior Program Manager at SPLC
