    F-Gases Matter To Climate Success

Alongside tackling carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, addressing these pollutants can make the difference between staying below and overshooting the critical 2°C Paris Agreement global temperature limit. Action on F-gases requires policies that promote less harmful alternatives, control leaks, reuse products, and ensure the destruction of gases at the end of their lifecycle.

    En-ROADS

En-ROADS is a transparent, freely-available policy simulation model that provides policymakers, educators, businesses, the media, and the public with the ability to explore, for themselves, the likely consequences of energy, economic growth, land use, and other policies and uncertainties, with the goal of improving their understanding. Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan are co-developers of En-ROADS.

The Overlooked GHG: Explore F-Gases in the En-ROADS Simuluator Webinar

Director of Modeling and Technology Joshua Loughman explores how reducing Fluorinated Gas emissions in refrigeration, air conditioning, and industrial processes can impact our climate goals. During the webinar, you're guided through simulating real-world policies and technologies to curb F-gas emissions at several key intervention points. Learn why these potent greenhouse gases demand our attention and how they're shaping our climate future.

Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS)

Based on the 2018 CBECS the estimated 5.9 million U.S. commercial buildings consumed 6.8 quadrillion British thermal units of energy and spent $141 billion on energy in 2018. Electricity and natural gas were the main energy sources. Space heating accounted for close to one-third of end-use consumption in 2018.

Enabling Ultra-low GWP Cooling and Heating: Updating U.S. Safety Standards and Codes

The report outlines feasible paths for US safety standards and building codes for refrigerants – primarily UL 60335-2-40 and ASHRAE 15 – to align with IEC 60335-2-40. Technical analysis concludes that full harmonization of U.S. standards with IEC, could enable 78–88% of new US AC/HP equipment sales to transition to hydrocarbons between 2030 to 2035 – cutting emissions while keeping U.S. manufacturers globally competitive.
