Buyer’s Principles for Transitions
Corporate Refrigerant Leadership
Our Commitment:
These principles reflect our organization’s commitment to improving building performance, advancing cost-effective innovation, and eliminating Scope 1 refrigerant emissions across our portfolio. By focusing on Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP)—a metric that captures total climate impact across manufacturing, operation, leakage, and disposal—we aim to shift the HVAC industry toward solutions that truly reduce emissions over time.
We invite our peers, suppliers, and partners to join us in transforming the refrigerant landscape. Together, we can eliminate harmful emissions, drive innovation, and build a more sustainable HVAC industry for the benefit of our stakeholders and communities.

✅ Our 5 Principles:
1. Prioritize Low-LCCP by Default
We commit to selecting systems and refrigerants with the lowest available LCCP. This includes equipment using non-synthetic or ultra-low-leak refrigerants, and systems designed for high efficiency over their full operational life.
2. Manage What We Own
We will implement comprehensive refrigerant lifecycle management from commissioning to leak detection and end-of-life recovery. We prioritize certified recovery, reclaim, or destruction to prevent high-impact emissions at every stage.
3. Send Strong Demand Signals
We will embed refrigerant expectations in our RFPs and contracts, favoring vendors who track refrigerants, offer reclaimed options, or disclose full-system carbon metrics such as LCCP or Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
4. Build and Train the Workforce We Need
We will invest in technician training focused on installation and maintenance of low-LCCP systems, and encourage alignment with updated safety, performance, and compliance standards.
5. Advocate with Us
We will use our voice to support practical, bipartisan policies that accelerate refrigerant innovation and workforce readiness ensuring that the transition is equitable, affordable, and accessible to all.
